Used Ford Fairmont

Used Ford Fairmont

The Fairmont is a full-size car built by American Car Company Ford at its Australian branch. It was first introduced in 1965 as an upmarket version of the Falcon. Throughout its life, it was offered as a four-door sedan. A station wagon was available from date of introduction of the Fairmont line until 2002, while a 2-door coupe appeared from 1972 to 1978. The standard Fairmont engine is a 3.3-liter 6-cylinder, an option on the Falcon. Since the introduction of the Fairmont, it has undergone various incarnations — each one a complement to existing Falcon series vehicles. However, the Fairmont usually has the better specifications from better and more interior options, better locking, computer, and the like. With the introduction of the FG Falcon series in 2008, production of the Fairmont line ended. The current Fairmont models – Fairmont MKII BF and the Fairmont Ghia MKII BF – were replaced by the G6, G6E, and Turbocharged G6E models. There is no hint of the old Fairmont in the Ghia. Tastefully coated with more colors than Henry Ford could have imagined, perched on 17-inch alloy wheels, gleaming with chrome grille and black accented front headlamps — the Ghia looks dynamic and smooth. Out on the road, the used Ford Fairmont does not disappoint, not with its ZF six-speed auto transmission accompanied by Sequential Sports Shift. Corners and rough surfaces do not pose any special problems. On the contrary, doing them is rather fun, thanks primarily to its sports-minded independent rear suspension that offers superb on-road feedback and comfort. It comes armed with a four-channel ABS with an Electronic Brakeforce Distribution system (EBD) that will prevent the car from going into a swing from a tight hairpin. There is Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) that keeps the car firmly on the road. On long straights, the Ghia is a blur with its engine – a Barra 190 4.0-liter VCT I6 DOHC Dual Independent – working wonderfully well. The engine generates 190 kW at 5250 rpm and a remarkable torque of 500 Nm at 3500 rpm, providing plenty of rear wheel power. Driving around town in the Fairmont Ghia is a pleasure. A six-disc CD and 150 amplifier and woofer are available to drive away boredom. The leathered seats are adjustable and come with lumbar support. Security features are first-rate: a trip computer, dual climate control, front passenger and driver airbags with two-stage inflators, side airbags, and others. Ventilated discs and sensitive brake pedals make braking as easy as it can get despite the car’s 1750 kilograms of weight. And there is one thing that distinguishes the 2008 Fairmont from previous models – its fuel consumption is 10.2 liters per 100 km – an excellent figure for such a big car.
